I heard about EagleView from one of my colleagues at ER. I saw this new mini-size ultrasound on their website. After receiving it, I soon got a chance to test one of my patients for an OB ultrasound. The device is truly light, the process lasts for a while and there was no discomfort on my wrist. App settings are direct. Fetus was detected and seen clearly (see attached). Most importantly, my patient gets to see their baby on my iPad, closely. I'm still exploring some advanced functions on the app. If you're looking for a portable ultrasound at this price point (3k), I guess this pocket ultrasound is totally worth it.

I'm a doctor from Singapore. I've been using this pocket ultrasound for a month. Though I'm concerned about what they are saying "Cardiac imaging might not be ideal". I still did some scans on my patients' hearts. View them below. I think these images came out more than expected, they may not perform ideally compare to traditional US machines. However, due to the low price point and high portability, I guess I have nothing to blame.

I've been wanting my own ultrasound for a while now for quick access for blocks, anatomy scans, vascular access and ECHO for local and locum work. It's not uncommon for the hospital's US to be in another theatre or being serviced, so having something literally in my pocket at all times is useful. I bit the bullet with EageView because of this mini pocket version, the price point and the lack of software subscription.

The good:
* So SO small and light. I am almost worried I will accidentally leave it in my scrubs pockets when getting changed and lose it. I cannot express how tiny and light this thing is.

* Really intuitive and easy to use. One button pretty much functions the whole thing including switching probes to use. Long hold is probe switch, short press is unfreeze, hold down to turn off. All they need now is like double click for depth change or something and it would be the perfect one hand device.

* Works by Wifi, which is quicker than bluetooth. Although if you don't have that network preferenced, it can be a pain to switch over. And it takes a little time to connect. However this is pretty trivial.

* For the size and price point, the image is adequate quality. It's not $50,000 hospital US quality, but you cannot in your right mind to expect it to be.

* The battery life is excellent. I have not had it run out and am using it multiple times daily - then a quick charge and it's good to go.

* It doesn't overheat. I have left it sitting while prepping for an intervention and picked it up, and it's still ready to go. Even without freezing the screen.

* NO subscription! Download the app and away you go. It's all right there. Make sure your phone is password protected for privacy purposes if you're going to store images.

* Comes with a phone stand. I thought that was a cute little bonus.

* USB-C option. Need I say more?

The bad:
* EagleView REALLY needs to fix the software for depth. Changing depth on the app is basically random probability if it will work or not. It's counter intuitive and they need to make the numbers bigger to see what depth things are at from any distance. Unless you're 5cm away from the screen you CANNOT see the depth numbers.

* (to be fair, this is stated in their description) The phased array cardiac ultrasound is pretty crap. You can see what you need to for extremely basic purposes (e.g. is there cardiac activity or not?) but not too much more than that. I think some software/firmware upgrading could improve this somewhat.

* There is limitation in the resolution. I think its bigger brother would likely have better resolution, but this thing has a better FPS (20 vs 18 for the bigger one). Resolution in shallow depth on the linear probe is pretty terrible, feels more like app digital zoom than any form of change by the probe itself. I see in someone else's description there is limitation on vascular edging discrimination - I would agree with this assessment.

* Needs to come with better instructions for the functionality of the probe and app settings.

* Postage was slow. Despite them saying express, be prepared to wait a while for it. I was very impatient for mine, expecting it to be here within days. It was not. They will also ignore any request of postage carrier even though they say you can choose in the FAQ. They are quick to reply to emails, but it doesn't really get you anywhere.

Other points:
Be realistic about the linear array. It's 3.2mm wide. So that's the view you get. If you're not good with moving a probe along to follow with a narrow linear view, go the bigger version.

If you want to ECHO in any good quality, go the bigger one. According to EV themselves, it does ECHO ?well. I haven't actually used it myself so cannot say out of experience, but they were honest about the limitations with the pocket one.

I have been using this thing daily for pretty much everything, and not in a "oh exciting new toy!" thing, but genuine use. It's SO much easier to take to a call on the ward rather than hijacking the theatre US, which frequently is a no-no anyway.

Overall, yes I recommend.

as the title; I have no complaint.

I am pleased with the Eagleview Pocket size and pricing. The interface with the iPhone and iPad mini works very well. I would appreciate more detailed instructions on using the features, but I am learning quickly. The cordless feature makes it easy to use with ultrasound guided peripheral vein access and the UltraDrape probe protection. Since my usage is primarily with vascular access and vein visualization, the resolution is adequate. I would appreciate instructions on how to adjust for cleaner vein edges. I am also pleased with the power doppler and its ability to measure velocity of blood flow. Thank you for the low pricing but can we get an upgraded model with better resolution?
